Royal Connection

Holt of Castleton and Holte of Aston are distantly connected but not through the male line. Two branches of the Holt family hold distant royal-descendant connections through marriage. Dorothy Ferrers, who married into the Holtes of Aston, came from the Ferrers–Hastings–Stanley line with established Plantagenet descent. Dorothy Grantham, who married into the Holts of Castleton, belonged to the Wentworth line, descended from Anne of York, sister of King Richard III. Through these separate Plantagenet and Yorkist lines, the Aston and Castleton Holt families can be considered distantly connected by royal blood.

The Ferrers–Hastings–Stanley network connects to Plantagenet royal blood through intermarriage. Holtes of Aston receive royal-descendant blood through noble intermarriage. The Wentworth–York network descends from Plantagenet royal blood directly. Holt of Castleton receives royal blood directly through the York line.
